Growing Together

Our new project provides gardening training, work experience and support for people looking to get back in to work, and therapeutic gardening sessions for people with mental health issues.

Our garden officers, Sean and Leanne, run weekly sessions in the garden providing training and work experience in horticulture and gardening, with tailored individual support to help people develop and progress on to paid employment. Alongside these session we also provide therapeutic activities focused on helping people improve their mental health. The friendly, informal setting of the garden provides a safe and supportive environment where people can grow and flourish! Sessions run on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  This project is supported by Lloyds Bank Foundation and European Structural and Investment Funds.

If you are interested in finding out more or want to start volunteering at the garden please contact our Garden Officer Sean: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or ring 0191 200 4706.

Come along and explore the Garden and join with others to make nature inspired music using a wide range of instruments and things we find around the Garden. This is a very relaxed session, and our activities are especially designed to meet the needs of young people with disabilities and their friends and families. Alternatively, if you're not in the mood to make music, you can simply enjoy exploring the Garden!

20th Birthday Celebration!

Lots of people who have been involved with the garden over its formative years attended a great action filled day to help us the celebrate 20 years of being part of the community

Our Patron and founder Ed Tyler gave an inspiring talk of his original dream and how thrilled he was to see its fruition. He also gave Duke of Edinburgh Bronze certificates to 3 of our Youth group, (Aaron, Terry, and Gary) who had successfully achieved this award. Well done!

Nigel Wild baked lovely treats in the outdoor bread oven to complement the food on the Bar-b-cue.

There was a photo display showing the garden's development, plant sales, craft activities, games and lots more.

Hawthorn Primary school's orchestra performed two sets of delightful music. They are a very talented group of children, encouraged by their dedicated teachers. This was also appreciated by our MP, Chi Onwurah.
